General Guidelines for work NOT REQUIRING a building permit
GENERAL
- Minor repairs
- Removal or replacement of existing flooring materials; carpets, vinyl flooring, wallpaper and paint.
- Cabinetry (kitchen) that DOES NOT require reconfiguring the existing design.
ELECTRICAL
- Replacement of existing fixtures.
- Low voltage systems i.e., doorbells, lighting, security.
- Replacement of defective fuses, lamps, relays, switches, receptacles, circuit breakers that DO NOT disturb the existing wiring.
PLUMBING
- Replacement of existing fixtures which DO NOT disturb existing plumbing.
- Minor repairs to faucets or traps.
- Repair or replacement of existing water heater with “like in kind” unit.
HVAC
- Replacement or repair of heating, ventilation or air conditioning duct or ventilation with “like in kind” unit.
- Repair of existing equipment.
- Replacement or repair of HVAC, appliance/equipment with “like in kind” unit.
FENCING
- Repairs to LESS THAN 50% of your existing fence.
ROOFING
- Tear-offs, re-roofs or repairs to existing roof.
- Two or more of ANY type roofing is prohibited.
DECKS
- Any deck LESS THAN 18” above grade, LESS THAN 15SQ foot
PORCHES, STAIRS & HANDRAILS
- Repairs other than structural.
- Replacement of existing of LESS THAN 50%.
WINDOWS AND DOORS
- Replacement of windows or doors of like size and type.
- Replacement of basement windows with glass block.
